General Contractors Board of Peers

Municipal Code Section 13.07.070 entitled General Contractor's Board of Peers.

  • There shall be and is created a General Contractor's Board of Peers consisting of members who are registered General Contractors in order to hear testimony and decide if or not the revocation of the registration of a General Contractor shall occur.

  • The Building Official shall be an ex officio member of and shall act as secretary to said board but shall have no vote upon any matter before the board.

  • The board may adopt rules of procedure for conducting its business and shall render all decisions and determinations in writing to the General Contractor in question.

  • The board shall consist of five member to be appointed by the Mayor and approved by the City Council. The members of the board shall be chosen from the residences of the state of Iowa, at least one member shall have a residential General Contractor's registration, at least one member shall have a commercial General Contractor's registration, and at least one member shall have a combination General Contractor's registration

  • The member of the board shall hold office until their successors are appointed. The term of office shall be five years, expiring one each year.

  • Members may be removed for cause by the Mayor with approval of the City Council. Vacancies shall be filed for an unexpired term in the same manner as appointment.

  • The board shall serve without pay.

  • For all business purposes, a quorum is required and is defined as three board members.

  • The board shall elect a chairperson and a vice chairperson

  • The board may act in an advisory capacity to the Mayor and City Council as regards to a voice of the registered General Contractors, on codes, or other related matters of interest. (Ord. 5013, 1991)
